This month-by-month outline provides a helpful overview of the events scheduled throughout the school year at Baker Montessori. Descriptions are included where available to help families know what to expect.
AUGUST
- Meet the Teacher & PTO Ice Cream Social
This is the first back-to-school community event for the 2025–2026 school year! Meet your child's new teacher or reconnect with their current teacher. This event is for all grade levels. Representatives from our school community will be available to onboard new families. You’ll learn the names of new teachers, pick-up tags for carpool, pay your student’s supply fees, purchase new Baker spirit items, learn about clubs and other after-school activities, find out how to volunteer for our Baker PTO, and enjoy some ice cream with your fellow Baker Bobcats! - New Student Orientation - For Early Childhood Only
New Baker families will have the chance to come to the school and participate in the new family orientation to talk with the school administrators about what to expect for the school year ahead. For new Early Childhood students, this includes a visit to the classroom! Students will get to know their teacher and familiarize themselves with their new classroom environment. - New Parent Orientation
For PK–8 families to learn about logistics and Montessori philosophy. Sessions offered in the morning and evening. - First Day of School
Parents of new Early Childhood students may walk their child to the classroom between 8:00–8:25am. - PTO Boo-Hoo/Woo-Hoo Breakfast
Drop off your child for their first day of school and then join us for a breakfast to cry tears of sadness or joy with fellow Baker parents. Located at the Early Childhood benches. - PTO General Meeting & Open House
PTO General Meeting: Join us to meet PTO leadership and hear about the PTO’s vision for the upcoming school year.
Open House: Parents should plan to attend to receive important beginning-of-the-year information from their teachers and the school staff. It’s also a chance to visit classrooms and meet other families. Teachers present twice to accommodate siblings. Childcare is provided by our after care partner, Little Heroes.
- NWEA MAP Testing (K–8)
Beginning-of-year academic testing in reading, math, science, and Spanish.
SEPTEMBER
- Camp Cullen Trip (MS)
Overnight field experience for middle school students.
OCTOBER
- Middle School Informational Session & MS Classroom Visits 5th and 6th grade families can learn about the MS program and tour classrooms.
- 7th Grade On-Campus Internships
Middle schoolers participate in internships around campus during the week. - Wax Museum (LE)
Lower Elementary Wax Museum: A project for lower elementary students to learn more about a historical figure. Parents are invited on Wax Museum day to visit the class. The children will be dressed up as their historical figure and “come to life” when approached to give a short speech sharing what they have learned. - Storybook Character Parade (EC)
Early Childhood Book Character Parade: EC students dress up as a favorite book character and walk in a parade. Parents are invited to watch. Students bring the book or a picture of the cover to match their costume. - Dia de los Muertos Fall Festival
A community event with carnival games, food, cultural performances, and lots of fun. Held on a Saturday in the Fall each year. Parent volunteers make this event possible, so please look out for sign ups closer to the event!
NOVEMBER
- Student Government Elections
- Night Light Art Show (2 Nights)
Night Light Art Show: A chance for students to see their art projected on the school. The event takes place over two nights, the first is low key and the second night is “like a kiddie rave” with glow sticks, a DJ, food and all of the art too. - Thanksgiving Luncheon
Usually held during the week before Thanksgiving break. Families join students in the cafeteria for a festive lunch with a modified schedule. Tickets sold in advance and at the door. - Thanksgiving Food Drive
DECEMBER
- PTO Winter Food/Toy Drive
- Holidays Around the World (EC)
Early Childhood students learn about various cultural holidays through hands-on activities. - Winter Classroom Celebrations
Usually the day before Winter break begins. Parent participation varies by class. Students may wear cozy pajamas.
JANUARY
- MAP Testing (K–8)
FEBRUARY
- Love is Love Family Dance
Hosted by the Middle School, a fundraiser for MS, in the school gym. This is a dance for all ages and parent chaperones are required for each child. Celebrates love, kindness, and friendship. - Lunar New Year Parade (EC)
Parade and dragon dance performance in Spark Park. Students may wear red or festive attire. - Valentine Card Exchange
- Students as Teachers
A chance for parents to become the student and students to become their teachers! Students will give their parents a couple of lessons and teach them about what they are working on in the classroom. Takes place after dismissal in the child’s classroom.
MARCH
- Field & Fun Day
The school’s largest fundraiser and active event where students get to do field games, a fun run and have a dance party. Usually held the Friday before Spring Break. Parent volunteers and sponsors are essential for this event. Leading up to the event, each student receives a free t-shirt, thanks to generous sponsors, and gets to tie-dye it during art. Event is not open to non-volunteers. - Spring Break
- Academic Showcase (LE/UE/MS)
In the Spring, projects vary by grade level. For Lower Elementary this is Invention Convention. Students present their work to parents and peers. - Practical Life Showcase (EC)
EC students demonstrate practical life and grace and courtesy skills they have been practicing. - PTO Camp Out
Overnight camping trip at Double Lake Recreation Area. Families bring their own supplies; space limited.
APRIL
- STAAR Testing Begins for Grades 3 - 8 (RLA, SS, Science, Math)
- Ella J. Baker Day
Students celebrate and learn about our school’s namesake.
MAY
- Teacher & Co-Teacher Appreciation Week
- MAP Testing (K–8)
- College & Career Week
Families and community members may be invited to share their professions. Includes themed dress days. - Moving Up Events (Kinder, 3rd, 6th grade visits)
Students visit classrooms for the next plane of development. - Moving Up Info Nights
Info sessions for parents about what to expect in the next 3-year cycle. Childcare provided.
JUNE
- Staff vs 8th Grade Kickball Game
Annual end-of-year game between staff and graduating 8th graders. - Sock Hop Dance
Grades 1–8; students wear fun socks and dance in the gym. - 8th Grade Moving On Ceremony
Evening celebration for 8th graders transitioning to high school. - End of Year Celebrations
Usually on the last day of school. Parent participation varies by class. - 8th Grade Walk of Fame
Final dismissal tradition. 8th graders walk through the halls from EC through MS and out the Windsor exit to the Spark Park as families cheer.
